Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827), composed nine violin sonatas from 1798 to 1803, and a final one in 1812. Featured on this new release by Zanta Hofmeyr and Ilia Radoslavov are Sonatas 2, 4, 6 (composed in 1798, 1800 and 1801-2 respectively); these intimate sonatas trace the growth in Beethoven’s musical prowess – from the mastery of the high-classical style to a more personal, complex style effected by his incurable deafness.
Accompanied with detailed liner notes on each sonata, this release is the debut release for collaborators Hofmeyr and Radoslavov.
They recently finished performances of the Beethoven sonata cycle in both South Africa and United States: “[Hofmeyr & Radoslavov] reach a level where the violin and piano blend with integrity, sensitively interwoven, ideally spoken, [and] richly contrasted.” (Paul Boekkooi)
