Peruvian indigenous music’s harmonic language inspired Fantasía Andina, while Upingos represents the Mexican folk tradition. US flutist and composer JenniferHigdon gives the performer a strong, energized voice in Song. Two Venezuelan dancetraditions are represented – joropo in Solo de Pajarillo, and the Venezuelan waltz in LaNegra. Also from Venezuela, composer Adina Izarra explores cutting-edge sound effectsusing extended techniques in El Amolador, the (axe) grinder. Camargo Guarnieri’s Three Improvisations is musical modernism but with an undeniably Brazilian melodic soul. Uruguayan composer José Serebrier’s at dusk, in shadows… invites us into a world oflight, contrast, and mystery, the perfect canvas for the flute’s infinite palette of colorsand expressive power.
