Distinguished pianist, Priya Mayadas explores the piano sonata in its transformative Romantic guise as well at the keyboard étude in early and late stages. She presents a program that traverses a broad musical landscape from Bach to Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt. The works take the listener from the 1720s, when the fortepiano was just appearing on the music scene, to the 1850s, when the piano emerged as the instrument most capable of reproducing the sonorities and dynamic range of the orchestra. This is music that changed the course of things.

Ms. Mayadas’ playing has been described as “hauntingly beautiful…reveling in the musical colors and shades” (The Statesman) and “radiant, spiritual and eloquent” (NY Concert Review), “full of breadth and impassioned fervor” (The Strad).
